Short Term Vacation Rental:

Stay in the Heart of the Seacoast

A sunny, thoughtfully renovated coastal home tucked into the trees of Kittery, Maine — minutes from beaches, Kittery Foreside, and downtown Portsmouth.

FarHills Cottage Kittery, Maine

Set on a quiet, tree-lined street just minutes from the beaches and waterfront of southern Maine, this bright and welcoming Kittery home was designed for slow mornings, beach afternoons, and cozy evenings at home.

The house blends classic New England charm with relaxed coastal comfort — filled with natural light, warm wood floors, colorful art, plants, books, records, and thoughtful personal touches throughout. It feels less like a rental and more like staying at the home of a friend who truly loves the Seacoast.

The newly renovated open kitchen and dining area creates the perfect gathering space, whether you're cooking dinner after a beach day or lingering over coffee before heading out to explore. The sunny living room features oversized comfortable seating, a record player, reading nook, and space to truly unwind.

Upstairs are two peaceful queen bedrooms tucked beneath the eaves, along with a full bath and cozy cottage details throughout the home.

Outside, the private backyard offers room to spread out and relax — with a back deck dining area, charcoal grill, hammock, chaise loungers, and wooded privacy that makes it feel like your own little retreat.

One of the best parts of staying here is the location:

  • 5 minutes to beaches, trails, parks, and the Maine coast

  • 10 minute walk to Kittery Foreside shops, cafés, restaurants, and breweries

  • 20 minute walk to downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire

Whether you're visiting for summer beach days, fall foliage weekends, a winter getaway, or simply a slower coastal pace, this home is the perfect base for experiencing the best of the Seacoast.

The House

Built around 1938, this home is the MILFORD model Sears Roebuck house — originally designed and lovingly built for servicemen and women returning home to Kittery after the war. Full of windows, sunlight, and warm wood floors and counters, the house immediately feels bright, welcoming, and relaxed.

This is not your typical lifeless short-term rental, but rather a well-loved and thoughtfully curated home designed to help you fully enjoy a Maine coastal escape.

From the massive center kitchen island to the dining room table to the back porch gathering space, this house was made for slowing down and enjoying one another’s company over good food, good drink, and good fun (hopefully involving lobster). The kitchen is stocked with everything you might need to cook a proper coastal feast or simply make a really good cup of coffee — something we take very seriously around here.

On the other side of the house, you’ll find a large and airy living room with calming colors, shelves of books, a record player for keeping things analog, and oversized comfortable seating perfect for lazy afternoons or movie nights after a beach day. Of course, there’s also a large smart TV with surround sound and Roku for catching up on your favorite shows. Open the windows on all three sides and let the Maine breeze roll through while your favorite music plays over the Bluetooth soundbar.

Upstairs, the home becomes a quiet and cozy retreat. The primary bedroom features a king-sized bed, Roku TV, room-darkening shades, and air conditioning for comfortable summer nights. The guest bedroom offers a queen bed along with its own A/C and blackout shades. The full bath is stocked with botanical, local bath products and finished with thoughtful touches throughout.

Throughout the home, small details hint at her history — the wooden rose inlay at the top of the stairs, original glass doorknobs, French interior doors, and other thoughtful touches that quietly connect the house to its nearly century-long story.

Outdoor Living - The Maine Way

Out the glass door off the kitchen, you’ll find a back porch oasis complete with a teak sun lounger, cocktail table, and a high-top Polywood dining table with seating for four. Between the privacy screen, eclectic art, various flags and burgees, and collected décor, the space feels a bit like your own private coastal tiki bar tucked into the trees.

Whether you’re cracking into fresh lobster or sipping a sundowner at golden hour, the soundtrack is often nothing more than birdsong and the breeze through the trees.

Beyond the deck, an open staircase leads down to a fully fenced backyard framed by forest and perennial gardens growing along the ledges. Café lights stretch overhead while wind chimes softly twinkle in the breeze. The two sheds frame the woods beyond, where you may spot a woodchuck wandering through or even the occasional deer.

While the home sits in a friendly neighborhood close to everything, the backyard strikes that perfect balance — connected when you want convenience and peaceful when you need to unplug.

Fun & Games

Mounted on the porch is a classic Bimini Ring Game — equal parts skill and luck. Inside the smaller shed you’ll find cornhole boards, bocce balls, badminton equipment, beach chairs, and other gear for making the most of long summer days.

When it’s time to truly slow down, claim the hammock beneath the apple tree with a good book or afternoon nap.

And for dinner? A large Weber gas grill stands ready for steaks from our friends at Maine Meat, fresh local seafood, or whatever coastal feast the evening calls for.

Neighborhood Highlights

One of the best things about staying here is the neighborhood itself. Our little side street sits just outside the bustle of downtown, making it peaceful, quiet, and wonderfully walkable. The streets are lined with sidewalks, mature trees, and friendly neighbors, and nearly everything you’d want to do is just minutes away.

At the end of our street is the historic Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where Navy submarines have been built and repaired since the 1800s. Kittery is proudly a Navy town, and if the breeze is right, you can hear the morning and sunset trumpet playing taps from the backyard.

Kittery somehow manages to have it all while still feeling laid back, welcoming, and refreshingly unpretentious.

Walkable Favorites

Through a wooded path at the end of our street, you can walk to:

  • Tributary Brewing Company — one of the best breweries in the country

  • Blue Mermaid Island Grill — Caribbean-inspired food, great cocktails, live music, and an excellent Sunday bluegrass brunch

Kittery Foreside is about a 10-minute walk from the house and full of fantastic spots:

  • The Black Birch — our pick for the best meal in town (get the deviled eggs)

  • The Wallingford Dram — a cozy speakeasy-style cocktail bar

  • Anju Noodle Bar — creative ramen and incredible pork buns

  • Rudders Public House — burgers, beers, games, and outdoor seating overlooking the Shipyard

  • Lil's Cafe — beloved local coffee shop with wildly addictive crullers

  • MEat — whole-animal butcher shop and ideal stop before grilling at home

Continue another 10–15 minutes along the water over the Memorial Bridge (or a quick 3-minute drive) and you’ll arrive in downtown Portsmouth with endless restaurants, shops, music, and waterfront energy.

Beaches & Coastal Maine

About 10 minutes from the house is Kittery Point — easily the most beautiful part of town.

  • Seapoint Beach offers a classic, unspoiled Maine beach experience

  • Fort Foster Park is our favorite place on earth — acres of open space, walking trails, beaches, picnic areas, grills, and arguably the best coastal views in Maine

  • Fort McClary is perfect for history lovers

  • Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier is a must for fresh-off-the-boat lobster — BYO sides and drinks for the full classic Maine experience

  • Pepperrell Cove offers a laid-back waterfront patio, Adirondack chairs, and beautiful harbor views

Easy Day Trips

The Seacoast makes a perfect home base for exploring:

  • 20 minutes to Ogunquit

  • 30 minutes to Kennebunkport

  • 1 hour to Portland

  • 1 hour to Boston

  • 90 minutes to White Mountain National Forest

  • 1 hour to Lake Winnipesaukee

And of course, the rest of the Maine coast — all the way to Acadia National Park — is yours to explore.
